Activated charcoal has long been used in hospitals for overdoses and poisoning. Bamboo activated charcoal has more surface area due to the structure of the plant. One teaspoon has the surface area of a football field. This product is safe to use for kids and animals in case of poisoning by chemical or food components. Simply add 1/4tsp to applesauce, water, or yogurt to ingest. The powder has no flavor of it’s own but swallowing it can be challenging.
Charcoal can also be used for detoxification. I like to take 1/2tsp at night for 10 days every 4 months. The charcoal detoxifies the body and will pass through the digestive system daily. So don’t be surprised 🙂 During and after this process I will add extra nutrients through juicing or eating extra superfoods. Any detoxification process should include a nutrient flush to remineralize and revitalize the body since beneficial elements will be lost during this process as well as all the gunk.
Charcoal can also be used externally. Your skin is the largest organ of your body and you should never put anything on your skin that you wouldn’t put into your mouth. I use charcoal externally for ant bites, spider bites, random bumps or pimples, acne, rashes, sun spots, inflammation, sore muscles, ect. Charcoal can be made into a paste by simply adding water until it is smooth. I also like to add a couple of drops of coconut oil or olive oil to keep the mixture moist. This paste can then be applied directly to the skin, covered with a wet paper towel and wrapped in plastic wrap or wax paper. I like to leave the paste on for at least an hour before removing it. I find that wipes or wet towels work best to remove the charcoal. This can be done several times a day depending upon the condition or need.
Charcoal can also be used as a teeth whitener. Sprinkle a small amount on your toothpaste or mix with baking soda and a few drops of water for a natural whitening agent. Your teeth will turn black while brushing but it rinses out and unlike commercial toothpaste charcoal is safe to swallow.
